As the southwest monsoon, or Habagat, begins, state weather bureau PAGASA is forecasting strong winds and moderate to heavy rains over several parts of the country on Monday and in the coming days.

In its 5 a.m. weather advisory on June 1, PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the southwest monsoon is now the prevailing weather system affecting Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and the western section of the Visayas.

For Monday, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms brought by the southwest monsoon are expected over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, the Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.

Due to the weather system, moderate to heavy rains are expected in Palawan and Occidental Mindoro, PAGASA said.

Strong winds are also expected in various areas of the country from Monday until Wednesday, June 3, due to the Habagat.

“Ngayong araw, may inaasahan tayong malalakas na hangin dulot ng habagat at indirect effect ng bagyo. Ang mga lugar na makakaranas ng malalakas na hangin ay sa Batanes, Cebu Islands, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Panay Island, at Negros Occidental,” Aurelio said.

Strong winds may be experienced in Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur on Tuesday, June 2.

On Wednesday, June 3, strong winds may persist over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Isabela, the whole of Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur, PAGASA added.
