Consumers may see lower electricity bills in June after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported a drop in transmission rates for May 2026.
NGCP said the overall average transmission rate declined by 9.33% to P1.4492 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in May, from P1.5983 per kWh in the April 2026 billing period.
By grid, transmission charges fell by P0.1481 per kWh in Luzon, P0.2884 per kWh in the Visayas, and P0.0140 per kWh in Mindanao.
The decline was attributed to a lower wheeling rate, or the fee for delivering electricity through the transmission grid. The wheeling rate dropped by 6.99% to P0.5607 per kWh from P0.6028 per kWh in April.
Ancillary service charges—pass-through costs for power supplied by generators during supply-demand imbalances—also decreased by 10.73% to P0.7220 per kWh from P0.8088 per kWh.
NGCP clarified that only about P0.56 per kWh goes to its transmission service, noting that it does not earn from ancillary service charges.
These charges are remitted directly to generation companies with contracts with the grid operator and to the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) for services sourced from the reserve market, NGCP said. — Photo from NGCP
