Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla has banned online gambling among all government officials and personnel.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) issued Memorandum Circular 2025-082, “prohibiting all DILG personnel, employees of its attached agencies, and all elected and appointed local government officials from accessing online gambling platforms or engaging in any form of online gambling.”
Remulla said the ban was implemented in line with Republic Act No. 6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, stating that gambling, including its online platforms, poses a “threat to the integrity of public service.”
In an interview with DZRH, Remulla said, “Sa aking pananaw, ang physical gambling at online, pareho lang iyan. Dapat bawal sila magsugal kasi it is a betrayal of public trust. Effective immediately po ito.”
Remulla also said that part of the DILG’s directive to other government agencies and offices includes ensuring their Wi-Fi hotspots automatically block access to online gambling platforms.
To further ensure that government employees do not access these platforms, Remulla said the names of personnel will be submitted to PAGCOR.
The DILG warns that violators will face administrative and/or criminal charges under the law.
