Contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya was cited in contempt by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on Thursday, September 18, after allegedly lying about the absence of his wife, Sarah Discaya, from the panel’s hearing on flood control projects.

Curlee initially told senators that Sarah could not attend due to a heart condition. However, her formal excuse letter to the committee stated a different reason: that she was attending a pre-scheduled meeting with her employees.

The conflicting explanations triggered sharp criticism from senators, who said the inconsistency undermined his credibility before the inquiry.

“May heart condition po siya. Nagpadala po siya ng letter dito, hindi ko lang nabasa ang content,” Curlee said during the proceedings.

But senators, pointing to Sarah’s written statement, said his testimony could not be accepted. “You lied. Paano pa kami maniniwala sa pinagsasabi mo?” Senator Erwin Tulfo said.

The committee later approved a motion to cite Curlee in contempt as the flood control probe continued.
