Sales of new electric vehicles (NEVs) jumped 63% in January 2026 to 2,610 units, up from 1,600 units in the same month in 2025, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) said.

According to CAMPI’s report, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles posted the largest gains among NEVs, with sales surging 2,978% to 277 units in January, compared with just nine units sold in the same month last year.

Battery electric vehicle sales also rose 78.8% to 261 units in January from 146 units in January 2025. Hybrid electric vehicle sales increased 43% to 2,072 units from 1,445 units a year earlier.

However, overall vehicle sales started 2026 on a weaker note. CAMPI said total vehicle sales—including figures combined with the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) and other industry data—reached 35,053 units in January, down 10% from the same month in 2025.

The figure was also 26% lower than the 47,371 units sold in December 2025.

Breaking it down, passenger car sales dropped 20% to 6,781 units in January from 7,729 units a year ago, while commercial vehicle sales fell 7.9% to 27,518 units from 29,875 units in January 2025.

CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza said the lower sales were expected in the first month of the year, citing strong demand in 2025. Despite the slower start, Atienza said the industry remains on track to reach its target of 500,000 units sold by the end of 2026.
