Meta Platforms and YouTube — two major social media platforms — made headlines within 24 hours following a service update and a widespread outage.
MESSENGER WEBSITE
Meta Platforms announced that Messenger.com will be phased out as a messaging service starting April 2026.
While the web version of Messenger will no longer be available in the coming months, Meta said its mobile app will remain fully operational.
“After messenger.com goes away, you will be automatically redirected to use facebook.com/messages for messaging on a computer. You can continue your conversations there or on the Messenger mobile app,” the company said in a statement.
YOUTUBE OUTAGE
YouTube suffered a widespread outage on Wednesday morning, affecting millions of users worldwide.
According to Downdetector, reports of the outage began at about 8:48 a.m. and peaked at 9:18 a.m., with 326,125 reports of the website being down in the United States.
About an hour later, users reported that YouTube was back online and functioning normally.
YouTube, owned by Google, is the world’s largest video-sharing platform, with 2.5 billion active users.
