San Miguel Corporation (SMC) chairman and chief executive officer Ramon S. Ang on Thursday, November 20, firmly dismissed speculation that he is being positioned for a political role, saying he has no intention of entering government despite reported chatter within business circles.

“Let me put things to rest: I am not entering politics,” Ang said on his Facebook page, responding to a flurry of messages he received after a story circulated naming him as a potential “consensus caretaker” amid the country’s escalating political crisis.

Ang said he intends to remain focused on his work in the private sector, noting that he has always preferred to contribute through business initiatives, infrastructure projects, and community support.

“Most people know me as someone who works quietly in business, building projects, fixing what I can, and supporting government and communities. That is where I believe I can contribute the most, and that is where I intend to stay,” he added.

His remarks came after a report by Politiko said that several wealthy families were informally discussing Ang as a potential stabilizing figure should the political turmoil deepen.

The story noted that Manila’s elite were weighing scenarios ranging from a military-backed “reset” to an interim caretaker arrangement, amid fears that investor confidence could deteriorate further.

The speculation surrounding Ang surfaced amid a period of heightened political turbulence, marked by corruption accusations involving billions of pesos and the exit of several senior government officials, among them Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.

At the same time, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been facing intensified public scrutiny, partly driven by Senator Imee Marcos’ remarks regarding her brother’s purported drug use.

Ang steered clear of those debates in his statement and emphasized that national progress requires collective action rather than reliance on any single figure.

“Moving forward will never depend on one individual. It will take government, private sector, and the public all moving in the same direction,” Ang said.

“My focus is to support that effort. I will be a dependable partner in building our country, nothing more,” he added.
