The Tagaytay-Nasugbu-Batangas Expressway segment known as TR4 is set to open by December 2026, slashing travel time from Manila to Tiaong in Quezon Province from two hours to just 15 to 30 minutes, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Transportation Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez said the expressway’s most immediate impact will be felt by agricultural truckers, as reduced travel time translates directly into lower transportation costs and, eventually, lower prices for consumers who buy food from Southern Luzon farms.
In an interview on DZRH News program Special on Saturday on August 29, as part of the DZRH SONA 2026 Series featuring the DOTr, Lopez said TR4 also benefits the millions of Filipinos who travel south toward Bicol and the Quezon Province coastline by significantly cutting the most congested stretch of the journey.
“Inabot po ng dalawang oras ho ‘yan eh, ngayon 15 to 30 minutes na lang,” Lopez said, adding that time savings for freight forwarders and truck drivers directly reduce the cost embedded in every agricultural product that passes through the corridor.
Transportation Senior Undersecretary Steven Pastor said TR4 covers approximately 30 kilometers and is on track for operational completion before the end of the year: “By December kaya natin yung TR4. December po this year, operational.”
The expressway complements other road investments under the Marcos administration, including the CAVITEX C5 Link which cut Cavite-to-C5 travel from one and a half hours to 15 minutes, and the ongoing national tollway interoperability rollout that now allows a single RFID card to work across all Philippine expressways.
