At least 425 gas stations across the Philippines have shut down amid rising fuel prices driven by tensions in the Middle East, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday, March 27.
“Sa araw po na ito March 27, 2026, ang kabuuan ng nagsaradong gas stations ay umabot po ng 425. Kahapon, ito po ay bumaba sa numero na 387, ngunit ito ay nadagdagan sa araw na ito ng 38,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said at a press briefing.
The closures are part of the 14,485 fuel stations nationwide currently under monitoring, as authorities tighten oversight following the declaration of a state of national energy emergency.
Police said at least six cases have been filed involving alleged hoarding, overpricing, trademark violations, and unfair competition, with incidents reported in Eastern Samar, Albay, Masbate, Davao del Sur, and Nueva Ecija.
The PNP has increased its presence around gas stations, fuel depots, and other critical infrastructure to deter illegal activities and ensure continued public access to essential services.
Authorities are coordinating with the Department of Energy and local price monitoring bodies to verify fuel supply and determine whether some closures are linked to profiteering or supply constraints.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said authorities are closely monitoring developments and warned against attempts to exploit the situation through illegal fuel practices.
The PNP urged the public to continue normal activities, practice responsible fuel use, and rely on official channels for updates as efforts continue to stabilize supply and maintain order during the ongoing energy crisis.
