National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) President and CEO Jericho Jonas “Koko” Nograles assured the public that no rotational or scheduled brownouts are planned in any area under their coverage this summer.

Nograles made the assurance during DZRH News’ Special on Saturday on May 2, as seasonal concerns over power supply mount amid rising temperatures.

He said the corporation, alongside the National Electrification Administration and the Department of Energy, is monitoring all generation, transmission, and distribution systems to ensure continuous power supply.

NAPOCOR is the government’s power provider for remote islands and far-flung communities that private utilities do not serve, operating around 180 power plants across roughly 168 islands from Batanes to Tawi-Tawi.

Nograles acknowledged that summer heat reduces generator efficiency—by up to four to five percent—but said NAPOCOR is managing the impact through coordination with electric cooperatives and local government units.

He added that most brownouts are caused by line problems rather than generation failures, with fallen tree branches cited as a common culprit.

On fuel security, Nograles said NAPOCOR and the Department of Energy had already moved to secure diesel supply for island power plants amid concerns that Middle East tensions could disrupt availability.

“Maasahan po ng taumbayan na alam namin na napaka-importante ng kuryente para sa commerce and industry, para sa mga tao, na hindi po namin ito pababayaan,” he said.
