The LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension is pushing forward toward Bacoor, with five additional kilometers and three more stations set to open after the resolution of a long-standing right-of-way issue at the Las Piñas Station site, Transportation Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John “TJ” Batan said Saturday.
Batan made the statement in an interview on DZRH News program Special on Saturday on August 29, as part of the DZRH SONA 2026 Series featuring the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The railways undersecretary said the LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension has been operational since 2024, currently running to Dr. Santos Station in Sucat, with the remaining five kilometers and three stations, including Las Piñas Station, representing the final push to Bacoor.
“Yung location po nitong tinatawag nating Las Piñas Station na ayon na nga rin po dun sa direktiba ni Secretary ay atin pong naresolba kasama po ng ating mga private partners,” Batan said.
Batan said current daily ridership on the LRT Line 1 from end to end is already between 500,000 and 600,000 passengers, and that completing the remaining stations all the way to Bacoor is expected to add another 200,000 to 300,000 daily riders.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez said completing the Cavite Extension means commuters from Bacoor, Las Piñas, and Zapote will be able to ride the train directly to Caloocan, North EDSA, and Fernando Poe Station without needing a private vehicle.
“Pwede kang pumunta dun sa Santos Station dirediretso papunta ng Caloocan, papunta siya ng North Edsa, Congressional Station, or Fernando Poe Station,” Lopez said.
Lopez said the completion also addresses the overload at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange, which is currently handling 180,000 daily passengers despite being designed for only 100,000, as more Cavite commuters shift from buses to rail.
