The Philippine National Police (PNP) will receive funding for 2,000 new patrolmen and patrolwomen, ₱2 billion to fill existing unfilled positions, ₱6.2 billion in capital outlay for police stations and headquarters, and a 10% increase in maintenance and operating expenses under the Marcos administration’s proposed 2027 national budget, Budget Secretary Kim Robert De Leon said Saturday.
The President’s Budget chief explained the details in an interview on DZRH News program Special on Saturday on September 5, as part of the DZRH SONA 2026 Series featuring the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
De Leon said the 2,000 additional patrolmen and patrolwomen will be funded at approximately ₱700 million and are intended to help the PNP get closer to its desired population-to-police ratio across the country.
“Meron tayong pondo ng pagdagdag ng 2,000 na patrolmen and patrolwomen nationwide. So about almost 700 million for hiring of additional 2,000 police personnel,” the Budget chief said.
The ₱2 billion for unfilled positions will fund the filling of vacancies that have long existed in the PNP’s authorized roster but remained unoccupied due to budget constraints—positions De Leon said will now be seriously filled.
The PNP’s maintenance and operating expenses are also rising 10%, from ₱23 billion this year to ₱25.7 billion next year, to cover day-to-day operational needs of police stations nationwide, while a ₱2 billion Capability Enhancement Program funds mobility, communications, firepower, and anti-terrorism equipment.
He said all PNP personnel will also receive the same 5% base pay increase, ₱350-per-day subsistence allowance, and ₱2,000 monthly PERA as their AFP counterparts, with rice subsidy and healthcare provisions for PNP personnel and their dependents also included.
“Meron silang rice subsidy, may provision din para sa kanilang hospitalization and healthcare at hindi lang yung PNP personnel pati yung kanilang mga dependents ay nakikinabang din dun sa ating provision,” De Leon said.
