The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is building a second major intermodal terminal in Taguig, the Taguig City Intermodal Terminal Exchange, or TCITX, expected to handle 160,000 passengers daily and connect interprovincial buses serving northern and eastern Metro Manila routes directly to both the North-South Commuter Railway and the Metro Manila Subway.
Transportation Senior Undersecretary Steven Pastor disclosed the project details in an interview on DZRH News program Special on Saturday on August 29, as part of the DZRH SONA 2026 Series featuring the DOTr.
Pastor said the TCITX is being built near the FTI area in Taguig, designed to serve as a counterpart to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange for routes that serve the northern and eastern parts of Metro Manila and beyond.
“Meron ho tayong kino-construct dito ngayon sa Taguig po na tinatawag po natin itong Taguig City Intermodal Terminal Exchange na ang anticipated po nating foot traffic ay 160,000 passengers per day,” Pastor said.
The DOTr’s senior undersecretary said the PITX, which TCITX will complement, was designed for 100,000 daily passengers but is already handling 180,000, nearly double its capacity, demonstrating the urgent need for a second intermodal hub to absorb the overflow and serve different routes.
Pastor said the TCITX will be directly connected to both the NSCR and the Metro Manila Subway, allowing passengers arriving by bus from the provinces to transfer seamlessly to rail for their onward journey within Metro Manila.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez said the two intermodal terminals reflect the DOTr’s core philosophy that all transportation modes—rail, road, maritime, and aviation—must be physically connected to each other to deliver true mobility for every Filipino.
He said the same template being applied in Metro Manila will eventually be replicated in Visayas and Mindanao, where the DOTr is also planning transportation infrastructure including the Davao Public Transport Modernization program.
