As Luzon battles heavy and intense rains with severe flooding for two consecutive weeks, residents in Mindanao pray for rain — as PAGASA forecasts high heat indices in various areas in the region.
Netizen Ulysees Baroro Zamora Raval, shared a video of his farm going dry due to lack of rains.
“Wala talagang ulan, sobrang init pa. Kawawa na ang aming mga tanim,” he shared on Facebook.
“Sana magkaulan na dito sa Mindanao,” he added.
In a different Facebook comment, netizen Josephine Liva said, “Sana dito sa Mindanao mag-ulan din kasi grabe ang init, sakit sa ulo.”
Based on the forecast by PAGASA-Mindanao, dangerous levels of heat index may be experienced in the region, ranging from 42 to 46 degrees Celsius.
Surigao City in Surigao del Norte, Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur and Butuan City in Agusan del Norte in CARAGA may experience a dangerous heat index of 46 degrees Celsius on Friday, August 14 and on Saturday, August 15.
Meanwhile in Luzon, PAGASA issued a heavy rainfall warning as of 11 a.m. on August 14 as the southwest monsoon or habagat continues to affect a huge part of the region.
An ORANGE warning is issued over Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila and portions of Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite and Batangas; while a YELLOW warning is issued over Tarlac, portions of Pampanga, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Bulacan.
Over the past two weeks, extreme flooding were reported in various areas of Luzon, with neck-deep floods or even above a person’s height, such as some places in Bulacan and Pampanga in the past few days, as seen from residents uploading videos on Facebook seeking help.
Due to the extreme flooding, several areas have already declared a state of calamity including: the province of Pampanga and Cavite, Montalban, Rizal; Calumpit and Hagonoy in Bulacan; and Mangaldan and Dagupan City in Pangasinan.
