The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is pushing members to transact entirely through their mobile phones, with President and CEO Jose Arnulfo “Wick” Veloso saying the agency has gone digital across its services and that there is no longer any reason for most members to visit a branch office.
Veloso made the announcement during an interview on DZRH’s Special on Saturday, noting that members can access their account information, check contribution records, apply for loans, and complete other transactions entirely through their smartphones.
Veloso said members can instantly check their contribution records, loan balances, and other account details without visiting a branch or asking anyone. “I just go digital,” he said, adding that all the information a member needs is already accessible through their mobile phone.
Among the services now fully available on mobile is the annual physical identification and revalidation required to confirm that pensioners continue to receive their pension.
Veloso said even this process — which previously required a personal appearance — can now be completed through facial recognition on a smartphone.
The GSIS chief expressed surprise that some members still travel to branch offices when the same transactions can be done from home. “In this day and age, if you still go and fall in line, then you have a very big problem,” Veloso said.
Loan applications, including the agency’s newly launched solar panel loan program, are also processed entirely online, with members only needing to upload a supplier quotation to initiate their application.
Veloso said the shift to digital is in line with a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to make government services more accessible and to eliminate unnecessary queuing.
