Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri on Wednesday, October 1, brushed off circulating social media posts suggesting unrest within the Senate, calling them misleading and malicious.

Zubiri clarified that while a video clip of him voicing concerns about leadership was genuine, it was taken months ago “under very different circumstances” and not under the current leadership of Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

He stressed that using the clip now to imply dissatisfaction with Sotto is “simply misleading.”

“What we have today is a Senate that runs better and more systematically,” Zubiri said in a statement.

He praised Sotto’s leadership style as “consultative,” pointing to regular caucuses where all senators are encouraged to air their views, debate issues, and build consensus before making decisions.

According to Zubiri, these practices have strengthened unity among senators and improved the chamber’s legislative work.

“Under SP Sotto, we have regular caucuses where everyone can speak up, debate issues and arrive at consensus before making decisions for the Filipino people. This has strengthened unity among senators and improved the quality of our work,” he said.

The Senate leader underscored that there is no internal discord in the chamber, contrary to claims being spread online.

“For the record, there is no disunity. The Senate remains strong, credible and focused on passing meaningful legislation,” Zubiri said.

Zubiri urged the public not to be distracted by what he described as “fake news.”

He advised Filipinos to focus instead on supporting the Senate’s legislative agenda and other efforts aimed at addressing the country’s pressing needs.

“Huwag po tayong magpaapekto sa ganitong fake news, dahil mas mabuting ibuhos natin ang atensyon sa tunay na trabaho na makakatulong sa ating mga kababayan,” he said.
