An overwhelming majority of netizens who joined The Situation Report’s social media poll are in favor of House Majority Leader Rep. Sandro Marcos’ bill to abolish the Philippine travel tax, based on results tallied as of Monday, February 9.
The poll shows that 99.13% of respondents support the proposal of the Presidential Son to scrap the travel tax, while only 0.87% back the position of Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco to retain it.
Responses were drawn from netizens who chose to engage with the poll after it was posted at 3:33 p.m. on Friday, February 6.
Participants were asked whether the travel tax should be abolished, with the poll noting that outbound passengers currently pay ₱2,700 for first-class travel and ₱1,620 for economy class.
Marcos has argued that high travel costs dampen economic activity by discouraging travel and limiting consumer spending.
Frasco has countered that the tax delivers public benefits, saying 50% of collections are used to fund tourism infrastructure such as tourist rest areas, visitor centers, jetty ports, and tourism education.
The results point to strong resistance among participating netizens to keeping the travel tax in place.
However, the poll is not scientific and serves only as a social media engagement tool to gauge the immediate sentiment of The Situation Report‘s online audience.
