President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso on Friday, February 6, conducted an inspection of the Bagong Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center following the groundbreaking of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila College of Allied Health Sciences Building inside the hospital complex.

The hospital walkthrough capped the official program that featured separate speeches by the President and the Mayor, both of whom highlighted the need to strengthen healthcare delivery through education, modern facilities, and sustained coordination between the national government and local government units.

The inspection was led by City Health Officer and concurrent Ospital ng Maynila head Dr. Grace Padilla, together with Dr. Randy Baradi, assistant head of the hospital, who guided the officials through key service areas of the city-run tertiary referral hospital.

Joining the walkthrough were President Marcos, Mayor Domagoso, Manila Vice Mayor Angela “Chi” Atienza, Dr. Padilla, and Engineer Andres, as they reviewed hospital operations and recent upgrades under the “Bagong Ospital ng Maynila” program.

The group began at the hospital’s triage section before proceeding to the second floor to inspect major diagnostic and interventional facilities, including the MRI, CT-scan, and the cardiovascular catheterization laboratory, which was inaugurated in September 2025 to support life-saving cardiac procedures.

They then moved to the eighth floor to inspect the hospital wards, where officials were briefed on patient capacity and service volume at the DOH- and PhilHealth-accredited medical center, which serves as Manila’s primary public referral hospital.

The Bagong Ospital ng Maynila was constructed at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, with groundbreaking held in June 2020 and the facility inaugurated on June 24, 2022—months before the global health emergency had fully subsided—highlighting the city’s push to expand healthcare capacity amid crisis conditions.

In his earlier remarks, Marcos underscored the importance of public hospitals such as Ospital ng Maynila in expanding access to healthcare, citing large-scale national investments in health infrastructure, education, and patient support programs.

“Patuloy po nating gagawing prayoridad ang kaligtasan, kalusugan, at kaginhawahan ng ating mga kababayan,” the President said.

The President noted that more than ₱427 billion has been allocated this year for the Department of Health and PhilHealth, alongside funding for specialty hospitals, zero-balance billing, and medical scholarships to address gaps in healthcare access, particularly outside Metro Manila.

Domagoso assured Marcos that the national government’s support for Manila’s health infrastructure and medical education will translated into functioning facilities and strong academic outcomes for PLM’s health programs.

“Hindi po kayo nagkamali, Ginoong Pangulo, sa pagbibigay ng suporta sa pagtatayo ng bagong gusali ng PLM College of Allied Health Sciences, sapagkat matagal nang napatutunayan ang husay ng mga nagsisipagtapos dito—mataas ang passing rates at palaging may mga topnotcher,” the Mayor said earlier.
