Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso on Wednesday, November 5, extended the city government’s solidarity with the people of Cebu and other areas hit by Typhoon Tino, announcing a ₱1 million donation to the provincial government and urging residents to contribute to relief efforts.

In a Facebook Live address, Domagoso expressed sympathy for the victims of Typhoon Tino, which the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said has left at least 66 people dead, 10 injured, and 26 missing across Visayas and Mindanao as of 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Of those fatalities, 49 were reported in Cebu due to floods, landslides, and fallen debris.

“Nakakalungkot, sa Cebu, hindi pa ho sila nakakabangon halos sa naganap na lindol. Ngayon naman po’y hinambalos sila ng bagyo,” the Mayor said.

Domagoso cited Cebu Governor Pamela “Pam” Baricuatro’s assessment that Typhoon Tino was “worse than Odette” in terms of rainfall, describing how floodwaters in the province rose dramatically within minutes.

“Itong si Tino ay grabe ‘yung flooding talaga,” he quoted Baricuatro as saying.

The Mayor extended Manila’s condolences to families who lost loved ones and assured Cebuanos that the capital city stands with them in grief and recovery.

“On behalf of the people of Manila, kami po ay taos-pusong nakikiramay at nakikiisa sa lahat ng pamilyang naapektuhan ng bagyo,” Domagoso said.

“The least thing that we can do is to share what we have, to be a good fellow to our fellow citizens, fellow Filipinos.”

He then announced that he had just signed the release of a ₱1 million donation from the City of Manila to the Province of Cebu to help jumpstart relief and rehabilitation efforts.

During the broadcast, the Mayor flashed on-screen the official LandBank account details of the Cebu provincial government and encouraged Manileños, local businesses, and overseas Filipinos to contribute in any amount they can.

“Wala pong maliit, wala pong malaki. Bawat tulong sa kapwa ay mahalaga,” he said.

Domagoso ended his live address by appealing for both prayers and action.

“Prayers will help. Your cash will help,” the Mayor said.

“Muli, ito po ang inyong lingkod, si Yorme po, na nananawagan sa ating lahat dito sa Lungsod ng Maynila at sa ating mga kababayan sa abroad — tulungan po natin ang ating mga kababayan sa Cebu. Manila. God bless,” he said.
