Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso has directed the Manila Police District (MPD) to ensure maximum police visibility across the city’s commercial and public areas as the holiday season approaches, citing the need to anticipate the expected rise in crime incidents during the last quarter of the year.
Speaking during the Manila Peace and Order Council 4th Quarter Meeting on Thursday, October 23, Domagoso directed the MPD to strictly comply with the directive of Philippine National Police (PNP) Acting Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. mandating heightened police visibility in public areas.
The Mayor said the city government is intensifying its campaign to maintain peace and order in coordination with the MPD, barangays, and other law enforcement agencies.
Domagoso instructed the MPD to deploy additional personnel and conduct round-the-clock patrols in high-density areas such as Binondo, Recto, Quiapo, Ermita, Malate, and the University Belt.
The Mayor’s directive is part of his administration’s continuing effort to strengthen public safety, which he earlier described as a key pillar of his “street-smart government” approach under the Make Manila Great Again development strategy.
During his first 100 days in office, the city reported a 9.2% increase in the MPD’s crime solution efficiency rate, which the mayor credited to the intensified campaign for law and order.
