The University of the Philippines (UP) Law Class of 2000 will launch a ₱2.11 million financial assistance program for the benefit of UP Law Complex employees and their families on September 5, 2025, at the Learning Commons, UP Law Library in Diliman, Quezon City.

Called the Y2K Damayan Fund, the program will provide aid for family emergencies such as serious illness, injury, or untimely loss.

It continues the initiative first started by UP Law Class of 1999 and serves as the Class of 2000’s flagship project for its Silver Jubilee celebration.

Organizers said the fund recognizes the indispensable role of non-academic personnel who support UP Law students in their journey to becoming lawyers.

From an initial goal of ₱1 million, the class was able to raise a total of ₱2,110,000 as of September 4, 2025, with contributions coming from classmates and other UP Law alumni.

The launch program will feature remarks from UP Law 2000 Inc. President Dan P. Calica and newly designated UP College of Law Dean Gwen Grecia-De Vera, while Solicitor General Darlene Marie Berberabe, former UP Law dean and president of the Class of 1999, will deliver the inspirational message.

A symbolic turnover of the fund will also be held, with representatives of the non-academic personnel receiving the donation. Evelyn Lilang, Supervising Administrative Officer of the UP Law Complex, will respond on behalf of the employees.

UP Law Classes of 1999 and 2000 expressed hope that the Y2K Damayan Fund will pave the way for a more sustainable and permanent assistance mechanism for the non-academic workforce of the UP Law Complex.

Donations may be issued through checks to UP Law 2000 Inc. or deposited to its Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) Current Account No. 009811-0011-36.
