As the country commemorates 40 years since the EDSA People Power Revolution, former Senator Gringo Honasan called on Filipinos to return to the very best that the historic uprising brought out in the nation.

In a statement, Honasan said EDSA “forever earned the Philippines an honorable place in history” and showed the world how a remarkable, peaceful change was indeed possible.

He looked back on a time when Filipinos were united behind a common aspiration and were willing to risk everything to make it a reality.

“EDSA was less about what it was against, but more about what it was for—good government, a shared voice, and a better future,” Honasan said.

For those who were at the frontlines of that historic event four decades ago, he said, EDSA was about staking their lives on that future and ensuring a better life for their children.

Honasan noted that today, different prevailing political colors, personal agendas, and self-serving governance may seem chaotic and disheartening.

Still, he said Filipinos would do well to keep returning to the very best that EDSA brought out in them.

“We must always remember what we as a nation are capable of, and what we truly deserve,” he said.
