President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Sunday, October 19, unveiled a series of collaborative projects with Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso, aimed at transforming the capital’s urban landscape.
The President took the opportunity to bare the key highlights of his legacy projects during the launch of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli (PBBM) Pasig River Urban Development Project Phase 4.
Speaking at the event, President Marcos said his recent meeting with Domagoso in Malacañang last Friday paved the way for new initiatives to restore Manila’s historic character while creating more sustainable and livable spaces for its residents.
“Just this Friday, I had a productive meeting with the Mayor of Manila where we discussed key projects that will further transform the city,” the President said.
“First is the planned conversion of the Intramuros Golf Course into an open green space, providing more breathing room in the heart of the city while at the same time preserving the historic charm of Intramuros,” the President said.
President Marcos also announced the forthcoming rehabilitation of Plaza Calderon, a cultural and historical landmark in Santa Ana, Manila, located just a few steps from the Pasig River.
The project aims to restore the plaza’s heritage significance and integrate it into the broader riverside redevelopment program.
He added that the Lawton Underpass, which links major transport and pedestrian corridors near the Pasig River, will likewise be enhanced to improve walkability and public access to the riverfront Esplanade.
“All these efforts are part of a larger vision to create a culturally rich urban environment where history, nature, and modern living come together seamlessly,” President Marcos said.
The President also emphasized that the projects represent a model of cooperation between the national government, the private sector, and local governments.
“This is yet more proof that when the national government, the private sector, LGUs, and the communities collaborate and work as one, great, game-changing things will happen,” he said.
